The lowest-rated Marvel film ever is reportedly getting a sequel.

The grandiose superhero movie Eternals, which was published by Marvel last year and featured a family of eternal aliens, proved to be too much for the interwoven comic book world, receiving the lowest rating of any MCU film to date.

Eternals 2 is supposedly in the works, so it would seem that Marvel's top brass haven't been completely deterred by the film's lackluster reaction. According to the forum moderator team, this story originates from a discussion on Reddit and "sources that have been proven authentic over time."

According to the post, Eternals 2 is "on track," but Marvel Studios does not want to make the same mistakes that were made with the previous film's development, according to TechRadar. In order to do this, it is rumored that Chloe Zhao, who directed the first film, may either have her artistic freedom "heavily constrained" or may not even return to direct the sequel at all. Even still, the leaker implies that the second scenario is more probable.

We may assume that characters like Sersi (Gemma Chan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), and Druig (Barry Keoghan) would all be featured in an Eternals sequel even if there is no information on casting or which characters would return. However, for the time being, all of the aforementioned information is only speculative as Marvel hasn't yet declared that Eternals 2 has been approved.

Given the negative reviews for the first movie, it would be surprising if Marvel Studios decided to move through with an Eternals sequel. Eternals holds the dubious distinction of being the first MCU film to get a Rotten Tomatoes rating.

The movie received a very unimpressive 47 percent, and critics criticized it for having too many new characters, moving at a slow pace, and having an unsatisfactory premise. Additionally, with a 6.3 rating on IMDb, it has the lowest MCU movie rating. Right now, even Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World, which is frequently seen as MCU low points, are ranked higher.

Since the movie's debut in November of last year, its position within the larger MCU has also come under scrutiny. The huge Celestial entity that emerged from the Indian Ocean at the end of the movie was stopped from destroying the planet by the Eternals. At the conclusion of the film, another Celestial abducted a number of Eternals. In the deluge of MCU initiatives that followed, none of these incidents were mentioned. The majority of people on Earth would have most likely seen a gigantic titan in the sky and might have had something to say about it, so this is strange.

This odd failure of other MCU films and TV shows to reference the events of Eternals has led to conjecture that Marvel is attempting to remove the movie from its world, but this rumor would suggest the opposite. Fair enough, it seems only fitting that Marvel gives the Eternals another chance to make a good impression given their position in the comic books.

Although the Eternals, who were created by the famous Jack Kirby, were never as well-known as the Avengers, X-Men, or Guardians of the Galaxy, they have amassed a fervent fan base of their own since their introduction in 1976. There are many interesting tales to be told about these super-powerful beings, and it would be wonderful to see them experience a sort of redemption arc thanks to a top-notch sequel.

Not to add, the conclusion of the first Eternals movie strongly hints that these individuals have more to say. In order to determine if mankind is worth sparing, the Celestial Arishem kidnapped members of the group; this story point still has to be resolved. Harry Styles was introduced in the movie's mid-credits sequences as Eros, Thanos' brother, and it's quite doubtful Marvel won't want to fully integrate such a well-known actor into the MCU.

On Saturday, July 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET, Marvel Studios will have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which might be the ideal setting to reveal that the Eternals will be making a comeback in the future. Even if a sequel is confirmed to be in the works, it's doubtful that we'll see it for a while since Marvel may want enough time to pass between the two films.

The MCU machine is still producing content at an impressive rate in the interim. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is soon to be released, whilst Thor: Love & Thunder has only recently arrived in theaters. Additionally, because Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus has come to an end, the focus is shifting to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which debuts on the service the following month.

Next: Amazon just offered Prime Video a significant improvement that it really needs. There is a new top program on Netflix, but people are unimpressed. The Gray Man's release date is also rapidly approaching.
